Installation Instructions
(Linea and Couture have special installation instructions)

Please check your order and confirm lay-up directions with your designer before preceding.

If you have any questions about the proper installation procedures of this product that these instructions do not answer, then please contact us for assistance at (360) 221-2742 during regular business hours.

Step 1: Preparation of Wall Surface

The surface to be covered must be clean, smooth, and structurally sound. Loose paint or other wallcoverings must be removed. In order to ensure maximum smoothness of installation; nail heads, nicks, gouges, and other surface imperfections should be smoothed and sealed. On new walls, dry wall joints should be taped, bedded and sanded smooth.

Remove and mildew from walls and treat surfaces to inhibit further mildew growth.

Do not hang paper over pencil, pen, crayon, markings, stains, or other foreign matter which could show through or bleed through the paper. Painted surfaces should be checked for the possibility of pigment bleeding through.

Glossy surfaces should be sanded to a dull surface finish.

Surfaces should be primed solid with oil or water-based primer. The color choice of the primer will alter the appearance of the installed paper in many instances; therefore, this is a tool the designer may wish to use.

Examples: Simone will appear as a warmer toned paper if laid up over an ecru primer than if over a stark white primer. When laid up over a strong color such as brown, it will read as a muted tan. When laid up over gold leaf, specks of metallic gold will read through the paper.

Note: Primer may be colored to adjust or vary the finish color of the paper, as many of the papers are translucent. If this change in color is desired, a test sample should always be done - prior to application - for designer approval. We recommend against using pure white or stark white as a primer. A warmer ecru compliments the natural coloring of the papers.

Step 2: Preparation of Paper

Examine each carton of papers to assure that pattern, color, quantity, and quality are as ordered.

Separate out borders if ordered. If multiple colors were ordered, consult your designer for placement.

Papers are packed "face" side up and are so marked. However, the designer should specify which side is to be pasted as our paper may be used on their "reverse" side in addition to their "front" face.

These papers are all handmade of 100% natural materials. Their inherent beauty comes from their texture and the color variation that occurs from sheet to sheet and within each sheet. As a rule, there will be a 20% color variation; not unlike stone, wood, grasses, or other natural products.

Step 3: Application

These papers are intended to be WET-HUNG, NOT dry-hung.

  1. Apply an even coat of professional clear, strippable adhesive to reverse side of paper using a stiff bristle brush or roller in accordance with label directions. Dilute minimally.
  2. Fold paper over loosely on self (no crease) to allow paper to relax for approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Apply relaxed sheets to wall - adjust - smooth sheet with papering brush to eliminate any air pockets and excess paste. Wipe off paste and clean with a damp sponge or cloth.

Placement of the paper should be predetermined with the position lightly marked with drafting tape or chalk (pen or pencil lines will show and may bleed). Plomb line and level will assure proper placement.

Papers are intended to be lapped 1/2" or more (they may be lapped in an exaggerated manner if desired).

The designer should supply a specific layout plan with lapping specifications for the installer. Papers may be laid up "top to bottom" or "bottom to top" based on the designer's specifications. Apply one sheet at a time.

To use half sheets and retain a "deckled edge", carefully tear sheets by hand using a metal straight edge as a guide.

To patch small holes or rips, tear off a scrap piece of paper and paste over the hole or rip on the reverse side.
